Our method of top dressing, or sanding, is the same as that used on golf course putting greens to produce a smooth surface and better soil conditions. By applying sand to any clay-based soil drainage is improved and grass, such as Bermuda and Zoysia, is stimulated to grow. Sanding also improves the color and growth of these turf grasses.
How else will topdressing help my turf?
Improves drainage
Increases nutrient retention
Softens turf surface for active play
Increases natural resistance to disease and pests
Provides excellent soil medium for tender root systems
Eliminates thatch that chokes and inhibits turf development
TOP-DRESSING PROCEDURE:
1) The turf must be scalped before the top dressing is applied. Scalping is taking the turf to the lowest possible level and removing the clippings. This procedure can be done by the customer or All Turf.
2) The ground is then core aerated.
3) Sand is applied at a thickness of ¼ inch. After the sand is applied, the turf is raked with a dragnet (a heavy metal mat) to pull the sand from any high areas and spread it into the low areas. Sand should not exceed 2” in depth. Any very low areas will be hand-spread up to 2” in depth.
4) The optimal season for top-dressing is during the spring and summer month when the turf is actively growing.
