The one downside of having a healthy lawn is that it can attract more than a few unwanted pests. Among those pests are fire ants. A fire ant infestation can be very serious and is not a pest that should be taken lightly. They are highly aggressive and can do serious, sometimes life-threatening, harm to those with weak immune systems, such as small children or senior citizens. This is because fire ants inject venom through their stinger when they attack and typically do so in great numbers. Someone who has been stung may experience severe reactions such as sweating, nausea, or excessive itching. Those exhibiting these symptoms should receive emergency medical treatment. Stings may also result in red bumps and white pustules, which can lead to scarring.
